Mars Outreach Night
« on: July 17, 2018, 10:33:32 AM »
Mars Outreach
By the end of July the red planet will be the closest and brightest it has been in 15 years.

To celebrate this special event, the Hamilton Centre RASC will host an outreach event at Spencer Smith Park in Burlington. Also visible will be Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon and the club is excited to share views of these heavenly bodies with anyone who wishes to have a look through one of our telescopes.

The telescopes will be set up near the water, behind Spencer’s Restaurant at 1340 Lakeshore Rd, Burlington, ON L7S 1B1. Look for the huge compass etched in the concrete.

Friday, July 27, with Saturday, July 28 as a rain date. Time: between dusk and 11:00 PM

The Centre is looking for volunteers to bring their own scopes or use one of the club’s scopes.

Hope to see you there!

I expect to be there.

Not sure which scope I'll bring, though...probably my 6" RC.

We had an amazing time in August 2003 when Mars was incredibly close.

This time should be even better, because we'll have Jupiter and Saturn to show off!

Oh goodness I am so excited. I learned how to use my telescope at this event last year and now I get to come back and hopefully be able to hold my own this time haha

Hi Ed et al,

I understand that RASC National already has a Mars fact sheet that is for use by members.   I am informed that public education and outreach have the file.

Thanks Jeff. I did receive a copy of it and sent it to those who have volunteered. But printing it would be costly as it is mostly in colour.

I had everything I needed packed in my truck, but I kept checking between 6 and 8pm, and at no time did the weather look good.

It's actually raining here in Milton at the moment (10pm on Friday evening).

I cannot make it tomorrow evening.
