Hamilton Centre's Past President, Ed Mizzi, was honoured this past weekend for his contributions to amateur astronomy in Canada.
At the 2019 General Assembly of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, held over several days at York University, our very own Ed Mizzi was awarded the RASC National Service Award.
Only a small number of RASC astronomers, from across Canada, received this award.
Anyone who has had the privilege of knowing this man, -- or better yet -- working with him, knows him to be a selfless, caring teacher - and a man who regularly makes himself subordinate to the common wealth.
Ed's contributions have spanned years -- decades even -- and range from junior's astronomy in Algonquin Park to the onerous responsibilities of legal governance and duty of care, as a director and as a president.
At every turn, Ed is a gentle man and a gentleman.
Congratulations, Ed .... very well deserved.

FYI: The Latin motto on the medal 'Quo Ducit Urania', translates into English as 'Where Urania Leads.'
Urania, of course, is the muse of astronomy, and she is one of a number of classic goddess sisters who was the inspiration for all learning and art.
