Solar and Planets will be our primary viewing objectives. Several of our club telescopes have Solar Filters and there will be at least 1 Hydrogen Alpha Solar scopes. Jupiter and Saturn will be high overhead and can be seen clearly even before sunset. Saturn will also be rising in the east. We’ll also have the ½ moon high overhead. Sunset is not until 8:44, so if we can hang out a bit longer, we’ll also do some night-time observing.

WEATHER PERMITTING – We need a reasonable expectation that we will have at least some major gaps in cloud. There is NO RAIN DATE. Check on our website main page and Forum Calendar for NO-GO announcement. We’ll make the final decision at approx.. 2:30 that afternoon.

We also have a few dozen “solar glasses” to hand out and we’ll be asking for donations.

We’ll need HELP ! AND…. You’ll have FUN !

There will be hoards of people and many hands make light work. You do NOT need to have any special knowledge or skills. Visitors will certainly have questions about the planets, moon, etc. So, brush-up on Saturn, Jupiter, Moon, and Sun. We also have the August 21 Solar Eclipse to talk about. Don’t be shy. If you don’t know how to answer a question, IT’S OK! It’s hard to be an expert at everything and you’ll still know more than 99.9% of visitors.

We will be bringing 3 of the club telescopes, but if you can bring your personal gear, that will be fun too. If your rig needs power, we can’t guarantee there will be AC Power.

If you have equipment you would like to bring, there is a parking lot within a few feet for drop-off. If you’re lucky, you’ll also find a parking spot nearby.

Things we need help with:
-   Collecting club equipment from our observatory. We’ll meet there @ 4:30
-   Some lawn chairs and a portable table or 2
-   Empty plastic “Donation Jars”. Cut a slit in the top and we’ll give you a label to tape onto it.
-   Telescope if you can
