Hello All, Be sure not to miss February's meeting where our guest presenter is Dr. Laura Parker from McMaster University. Her presentation - Galaxy Evolution in Groups and Clusters
Here is a brief description of the topic:

I will present an observational overview of how galaxies evolve over cosmic time. This talk will focus on the role that the host environment plays in the evolution of galaxy shapes and star formation. I will share some recent work from my research group that explores the galaxy transformations that occur in the most extreme host environment, rich galaxy clusters.

 Bio:

Dr. Laura Parker is a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at McMaster University. Her research group is interested in questions related to galaxy evolution and observational cosmology. In particular her group is trying to understand the connection between observed galaxy properties and the properties of the environments in which we find them, including the relationship between galaxies and their host dark matter halos.

Dr. Parker completed her PhD in Physics at the University of Waterloo in 2005 and was then a postdoctoral fellow at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Munich Germany before returning to Canada in 2007 to join the faculty at McMaster.

Mark this on your calendars!!!
