Telescope Lending Program Resumes July 11, 2016
« on: June 29, 2016, 09:12:57 AM »
Our 3 DOB Telescopes have been getting some heavy exercise over the last few months at several outreach events. So we bought more and we are happy to announce that we are able to resume our Telescope Lending Program commencing July 11.

In addition to 8” Dobsonian Telescopes (3 in all), we also have several “lesser” refractor telescopes that will be perfect for observing bright objects.

Member, Ed Mizzi, will be managing this program.

The fine print:
1.   You must be a current Club Member (19 years or older) for the duration of the borrowing period. If your membership is close to expiration, please renew before making a telescope reservation.
2.   Proof of identity (the usual).
3.   Telescopes can be borrowed for a period of 2-weeks. If no one else is on a wait-list, the 2 weeks can be extended.
4.   The program manager is an unpaid volunteer. You must respect his schedule and be able and willing to be flexible. We will frown on those “leaving for my cottage today, can I borrow a scope” situations. Plan ahead please!
5.   Borrowers must give a minimum of 48 hours notice in order to pick up and drop off scopes.
6.   When you pick-up the telescope, you will be asked to sign an Agreement. Quick highlights:
     a. Equipment Condition: You will return the telescope and accessories in an equal (or better) condition. In other words…you break it/lose it, you bought it. You assume any costs to repair or replace lost/damaged equipment.
     b. A return date
     c. Our Dobsonian Telescopes have a “finder scope” and it has a battery. It will be in working condition when you pick-up, but if it dies while in your possession, you will replace it with a fresh battery.
7.   DO NOT attempt to clean lenses, mirrors, eyepieces. There are coatings that can be easily damaged if not cleaned properly.
8.   The borrower must allow a minimum of 15 minutes for a briefing on how to use the equipment.
9.   Borrowers may not pass their loaner on to another member without first notifying the program manager.

Hello Ed,

Are you still the point person to reserve one of the 8" dobs?
Also, how far out can we reserve a scope?

Thank you
Robert

If you're a current member, you may borrow a loaner scope at an observing night and return it at the next observing night the following month.

Observing Nights are posted on the Forum Calendar. The next one is February 15th at the Observatory.
