Title: July 12 - Sidewalk Astronomy at Spencer Smith Park - 8pm
Post by: Roger Hill on July 10, 2019, 12:19:53 PM
Come on out to see, or help with, some Sidewalk Astronomy!

Bring your telescope and help us show the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn to passers-by!

If you've never helped, or attended, one of these events then now is the time to find out how much FUN they can be.

There are few better ways to spend an evening than hearing the gasps of astonishment when people see the Rings of Saturn, the Moons of Jupiter, or Craters On The Moon for the first time.

Please meet at the west end of Spencer Smith Park, at the Compass Rose, near the restaurant and toy boat pool.

Good luck to everyone going out tonight, unfortunately I'm busy getting ready for my kids bday party tomorrow. Clear skies

Thanks Gavin, It was a super Outreach Event! Roger, Bob and I were busy from 8:30 to after 11:00 and we had all age groups stopping by. We had lots of oohs and awes from kids to adults alike and, as usual, it was very rewarding and lots of fun.

People were genuinely interested and, as Roger put it, they were also interesting people to meet.
With views of Jupiter, Saturn and a waxing gibbous Moon, it made the night very memorable.
Thanks to Roger for spearheading this event.

Ed

It was good fun.  One fellow who watched me set up (I got there almost an hour before Ed and Bob), ran and got his Canon DSLR from his car when I mentioned that I had an EOS adapter with me.  I took a few minutes shortly after the Sun went down to allow him to take a couple of pictures of the Moon...he was very happy!

With three telescopes we were able to have one pointed at the Moon, another at Jupiter and a third looking at Saturn.

This was good for me because I had forgotten my finder, and finding the Moon was relatively easy!

The next one is on Friday, August the 9th, but I won't be able to make it.
