For anyone that uses the app, you know how great it is to provide advanced weather tools for professional astronomers and astrophotographers. In addition it supports hundreds of astronomical societies with tools that help members stay connected.
We now have a subspace channel on there. After downloading the app or accessing the website (https://www.astrospheric.com/ (https://www.astrospheric.com/)) and creating a free account you can join the Hamilton Centre RASC in one of two ways:
Option 1
- Once installed, click the blue "S" in the upper right-hand corner.
- Click the, "Join Group", button at the top-centre of the page.
- Enter the following code in the Subspace Code field: AsV1C_YmxhbmsgODQ3YWNlMjY=
- Click Transmit Code to verify.
Note: By joining this way you are automatically added to the subspace group and there's no need for approval. Please don't share the code with anyone that is not part of the Hamilton RASC. They can join via Option 2.
Option 2- Once installed, click the blue "S" in the upper right-hand corner.
- Click the, "Join Group", button at the top-centre of the page.
- Scroll down until you see Hamilton RASC and click the button for our centre
Note: This method does require approval and for now, is reserved for anyone that is not yet a member. It's how access is being filtered. Once the request is received, registration should happen within 24hrs.
Please free to suggest topics that can be posted to the Subspace group. For now I will do my best to repost the daily feed from the Hamilton RASC Facebook page.
Some thoughts on topics:
- Outreach events
- Astronomical events
- Astrophotography topics
- Seminars or lectures
Keep in mind the flavour of the Subspace group is mainly to expose the public to what our club is doing.
Hoping to hear some great suggestions.
Victor, Thanks. I just submitted my code. Working fine so far.
Ed
Indeed - I think I posted some updates and then saw you on the list of members in Astrospheric.
Victor, For additional headings for our Astrospheric posts, I suggest you look at the headings on the Hamilton RASC Forum,
such as...The Hamilton Centre Observatory, Technical, Image Gallery, Telescopes, In the Media, etc.
However, I do have one concern...will having this new "forum" draw people away from the Ham. Forum. I mean, not many members/non-members access the one we have now. And posting items on two forums may take more time than people have available. Just a thought.
Ed
Yeah exactly! My thought was to really keep it about outreach and a way for us to draw in new members by showcasing the things we do. I agree that it should not replicate the forum but open to thoughts.
Just joined - looks interesting.
Bruce
Awesome Bruce! I just sent you a welcome message. For now, the only content is a repost from the Facebook page, highligting the nightly sky. Once we grow the numbers then we can think about content.
Not sure if posting this in 2 feeds increases the chances of people seeing and reading it, but here goes.
Our humble group is now up to 10 members on Astrospheric. Another 10 and we'll get access to the "Society" version of the app. Not sure what that means, but I've always wanted to be part of society.
The higher the better!
For those that have signed up - let me know if you like the (trying for daily) content and please encourage others to sign up. For those who have to yet sign lup, please check out the online version here: https://www.astrospheric.com/ioslauncher.php?Ref= (https://www.astrospheric.com/ioslauncher.php?Ref=). Or download the app from your device store.
Through a section of the app or online called "Subspace", you can join any number of astronomy groups - including ours.
