Hello RASC members,
It's that time of year again when the leaves are falling, the days are getting shorter and the Observatory grounds require some maintenance. I'm looking for volunteers to join me for a day to help clean up our amazing club facility. I'd like to have this project done before November and would like some input as to what day on the last two weekends of October is best for potential volunteers. Obviously, whatever day is chosen we should have a potential rain date. That being said, there is plenty of work to do in the warm room, so weather isn't a factor.
Duties include:
- Yard maintenance and beautification
- Cleaning and general repairs to the clubhouse, washroom, shed and observatory
- Having fun, meeting new members and reconnecting with old ones
Benefits to consider:
- As a thank you to all volunteers, we will provide lunch
- Your own Observatory key (club members only)
This is a great opportunity for kids in high school to obtain some of the mandatory volunteer hours that are required for graduation, so pass it along to any kids that you might know need some hours.
Please rank your choices from (1) most preferred to (4) least preferred:
- October 20
- October 21
- October 27
- October 28
I feel that it is our responsibility as members of a club that has been around for over a hundred years to make sure that our facility is working and looking the best that it can. Thanks for reading & hope to see lots of volunteers.

Hi Gavin, I can help but only on Oct. 20 or 21.
Ed
Thanks Ed, I'll let you know
I can help out but just like Ed, only on the 20th and 21st.
Thanks Abbie, hopefully a few more people will volunteer. I'll make a decision on Thursday night if this weekend is a go.

Hi, Gavin...
I cannot make this coming weekend during the day as I will be visiting my wife in the hospital...she's getting a new hip installed on Friday. If it's clear on Saturday night, though, I strongly suspect I'll be at the Observatory.
The following weekend is much better for me, although my wife's convalescence may preclude me going, but I won't know until the night before.
Thanks Roger, you already do so much for the club, take a break & look after your wife. Hope her surgery & recovery go well. I've sent you a message about Sat night.
Thanks

Hi All.
I'm new to the club. I can help on any of those days, but my time would be limited this weekend (I could squeeze in a few hours).
Regards,
Sam
Thanks Sam, hopefully an announcement will go out tonight about when the clean up day will be. Stay posted

Thank you very much to all the dedicated RASC Hamilton members who have volunteered for the clean up. I'm happy to announce that we will be cleaning up our facility this Saturday, October 20.
Clean up will start promptly at 10am and end when I run out of steam, probably around 4. Volunteers who can't make it to the 10 am start are more than welcome to come when they can. The weather will be cold & there is a chance of slight rain, so please dress accordingly.
If possible, could volunteers please bring the following:
- suitable gloves for yard work
- rake
- yard waste bag
- pruning shears
- safety glasses
-dust mask
-ear protection if you want to use the chainsaw/whipper snipper
- extra rags/dusters
I'll bring what I can but all the resources we can muster would be greatly appreciated. Please stay posted as some details may change.
Pizza, hot and cold beverages will be served and highschool volunteer forms will be available to those that require them.
Thanks
Gavin Hill
