When Pluto was summarily demoted from planet status in 2006, it plunged teachers, textbooks, and students into confusion that remains unresolved to this day. The new definition of a planet is difficult to apply and even more difficult to explain to a ten year-old. In this webinar, we'll discuss that definition, why it was put in place, what it really means, and how to explain it to your students. Using examples from our solar system and others, we'll also ask whether the new definition of "planet" is the right one, and whether it might soon be overturned.
