I'm writing to you today to inform you that our introduction to astronomy course - NOVA still has openings for those who may wish to register. NOVA is a highly recommended introduction to basic astronomical concepts for beginners and those who want to fill in some gaps in their knowledge. Courses are scheduled to begin on January 30'th and run in the evenings every other week until April 24'th. The program is run at our observatory. The courses are supplemented by some actual observatory viewing (conditions permitting) before and after the classroom presentations. In the past the program has attracted current members as well as their sons, daughters and spouses. Although the program is offered free as part of your membership, we do charge a small $5 fee per session to cover the cost of materials and handouts. The NOVA program is run on demand so will only be repeated next year if there is sufficient interest at that time. Consider signing up now for this excellent program so as not to miss out. Just a reminder that our next monthly meeting takes place this Thursday (Feb 2'nd) at 8:00 pm. We meet at the Legion - 79 Hamilton St. N. in Waterdown. (This is off Hwy 5 and just north of Weeks Hardware) Activities are starting to pick up after the holidays and we have a lot of exciting news. There will be updates to this years' AstroCATS, new outreach opportunities, maintenance activities plus an interesting discussion around radio telescopes by our own Chris Talpas. As always, our meetings are open to the public so if you have someone that you feel might be interested in astronomy, by all means invite them along.
