Ted Rudyk will be our guest speaker and will be talking about Kuiper Belt Objects (asteroids, comets, Planetoids).

Kuiper belt objects are important to our understanding of the history and evolution of the solar system, but much is is still not known about them.  In particular, the population and size distribution of KBOs is difficult to determine, due to their distance and small size.  Using specially designed cameras, we hope to use the occultation method to detect KBOs two orders of magnitude smaller than what one can detect using traditional methods.

Ted is a frequent host at public outreach events that he has hosted in the GTA (Saddington Park, Forks of the Credit, York University Observatory), as well as his work with Efston Science. Ted is working on his Masters Degree in Astronomy at Western University.
