RASC Hamilton John Dobson passes away at age 98

I heard that John Dobson visited the Hamilton Centre observatory in the early '80's, possibly as part of a GA.  

There was one telescope that we had that he wasn't particularly impressed with.

Hail and farewell to John Dobson, one of the great innovators. Dobson transformed amateur astronomy with his invention of a simple manual mount for large reflecting telescopes. Called a "Dobsonian" mount, it dramatically cut the cost and aided in the portability of reflectors of 8" or larger. "Dobsonians" of 24" diameter are within the range of amateurs, whereas telescopes of similar size but on equatorial or fork mounts are prohibitively expensive and heavy. He passed away yesterday in California, at the age of 98. 
 
Of course whether or not you agreed with his views on cosmology was a different matter...
