Hi Roger,

Is this scheduled to be every alternate Monday? as the first one is
scheduled for Feb 3rd. Or does the day of week change every time ?

Subject: New Observers to Visual Astronomy (NOVA)

The Hamilton Centre will be running the New Observers to Visual
Astronomy (NOVA) course again, starting two weeks tonight, on February
3rd, at the Observatory.  Despite the name, it's not ALL about visual
observing.  The course is an excellent guide to many concepts in
astronomy and gaining an appreciation of what can see in the sky.
 
The course consists of 8 sessions, approximately every other week, and
we ran it for the first time last year.
 
The course was very successful, but there was some criticism, for which
I'd like to thank those who took the time to comment.  This means that
the course will be a little different from last time.
 
First of all, each evening will start with an observing session run by
Mark Pickett at 7:30.  The classroom portion will start at 8pm, and go
for about 90 minutes, depending on the amount of discussion that
happens.
 
The second change is the purchase of the Beginners Observers Guide.
This great book normally costs $19.95, plus shipping, for members.
Since we charge $5 a session (for heat and hand-outs), we'll be charging
$20 for the first one, and this will include your own copy of the
B.O.G...in effect giving you a $5 discound on the book.
 
Space is limited, and we had to turn people away last year.
 
Please let me know if you intend to take the course so we can reserve
you a seat.
