It needs a mechanical adjustment to adjust the spacing between the worm and
main gear. Our Paramount ME has a very elegant way to do this (we call them
the "clutch knobs" as I recall). The CGE Pro adjustment is not so elegant.
But then, the CGE is not a $15K mount.

 

It is operable now, but you might notice some odd "jerkiness" and a
"ticking" noise when it is pointed in certain orientations. This would
indicate that the gear spacing needs to be reduced. Need some daylight time
to do that.

Sounds excellent.

When you say worm gears need adjustment - are you talking about PPEC or
mechanical alignment problem?

The new C14 is on a CGE Pro Mount. AND... it's operational!

 

Right now, it's on a tripod but we will be installing a permanent pier.

 

It also has:

- A dew heat controller & 1 X 14" Heater strip + guide scope heater

- Guide Scope, Camera & dew heater

- A dedicated computer with appropriate software

- 2 powered USB Hubs & active USB cable

- Power console with power for 5V USB hub, 8V DSLR Camera, and 2 X 12V
Accessory outlets (all are RCA centre-positive plugs).

 

Some tweaking still needed:

- We need 1 more 14" heater & a dew shield.

- Wires need some tidy-up

- Worm Gears need adjustment

- A User Manual write-up

 

We will also be adding a SCT rear-cell focuser (with motor)

I will be heading out to the observatory tonight and would love some
company!

 

I plan to give our new Celestron 14" Edge HD and mount a good workout!

 

I will be there well before dark to do some prep-work to get it ready for
the MallinCAM that will be arriving any day now.
