Agreed.

I normally use the roof, or eaves, of a house.  I managed to observe Venus shortly after noon about a week before the last Transit.  

Clouds can also be useful in this manner, to hide the Sun.

I observed Venus with the Sun almost directly overhead in July, 1991.  Of course, the Moon was completely blocking the Sun at the time!

    Part of the trick of finding daytime objects is to observe where the 
Sun is not directly visible, so I kind of forget that caveat.
