RASC Hamilton - Members Only Board Update

Hello Members,

The Board wanted to send you an update on the activities of the club in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

There have been a number of extensions on social isolation brought forward by the government of Ontario as well as a number of municipalities/cities/towns in the area.  Schools are closed until at least May, Hamilton has extended the shutdown of facilities and programs until May 25th, Burlington until the end of June.  All say that the bans and restrictions will be lifted only if the virus is brought under control and based on provincial orders and restrictions and there will be further updates in the future as new information becomes available.

In accordance with these directives we will be cancelling our monthly general meetings and monthly observation nights until further notice.  In addition, the projects that have been planned for this year at the observatory, the addition of a 20ft storage container and the construction of a concrete observation pad will also be suspended.  Finally, all public observation nights that have been planned until the end of June are cancelled (since we use a Burlington park for the event).

We will continue with the monthly astrophotography contest and you can find the monthly challenges posted on the forums.

We also recommend taking the opportunity to look at the RASC observation programs and do some observing in your backyards.  The sky is still available to us, even if the parks and public places are not.
