There will be a Collimation Clinic this night, so come on out and learn how to align your optics for peak performance.

If it is Clear: Guidance will be offered for people to work towards their Messier, Explore The Universe, or Luna, certificates.

Bring your own 'scope, and if you'd like some help with it, or have any questions, then this is the Night for you!

If you don't have a 'scope, then you may be able to borrow one of the Centre's 8" Dobsonians.  If you're currently borrowing one, this is the night to bring it back.

IF it is cloudy, then I will offer one of the NOVA topics:
•   Observing fundamentals
•   Motions of the Sky and Seasons
•   The Solar System
•   Telescope and Binocular Types and Using Them
•   The Moon and Eclipses
•   Charts, North, Distance, Position and Brightness
•   Star Designations, RA, Dec. and Deep Sky Objects

Hi,
I was wondering if we could also borrow solar filters like for example a H-alpha..Or anything else that will enhance the solar photography experience.
Thank you
Alta

Hi, Alta...

Although there are some members who have Personal Solar Telescopes, the Centre does not have one, nor does it have the Energy Rejection Filter and Etalon combination that can be used on different telescopes.

At the next Heavy METUL night, the sun will be setting at about the time I'll be opening the gates, so there'll be nothing to see on the Sun if I brought mine out.  In May, the Sun will set an hour later, and so it might be possible to see something then as the Sun will be high enough.

if you have your own telescope, I'd recommend you purchasing a solar filter from Kendrick's or one of the other excellent telescope vendors around.

The Clear Sky Chart for the Heavy METUL night at t he Observatory on April 12 is looking better all the time.

We'll have a nice moon to look at, but not so bright that the Winter Messiers will be drowned out.

Gates open at 7:30, and bring your telescopes!
