RASC Hamilton Transit of Venus

Gang,

Due to commitments later in the evening, I wasn't able to attend the event
at the school last night.  My wife and had the solar glasses and viewed the
transit from our patio which faces west. We started looking at 6:04 and
didn't see anything. All the literature I had gathered indicated the transit
would start about the 10 o'clock position on the Sun. We were surprised when
Venus did appear it was between the 12 and 1 o'clock position. It didn't
really matter as were able to see everything including 3 sun spots below
Venus.

Around 7:30 we ventured to the parking lot with extra glasses and attracted
the attention of a few neighbours who asked what we were looking at. We gave
them the glasses and the 'wow' factor was heard until the Sun disappeared
behind the buildings.

The best views came when I used 7x50 binoculars with the solar glasses.
Venus and the sun spots were clear and a wonderful sight.   My wife was
wearing a t-shirt from the Nova East star party held in Nova Scotia in 2004
and on the back it had a picture of both transits. This was used to help
explain the event.

I'm looking forward to seeing pictures members have taken especially when
Venus makes first contact with the Sun.
