RASC Hamilton - Members Only Hamilton RASC - Outreach assistance at Westfield Heritage Conservation Area

>From time to time, the club will be invited to events or locations to meet
with people and be available to answer questions about astronomy or to help
point our telescopes at different objects.  The types of questions we get
are usually very basic, and for evening events the thrill of showing
someone a celestial object they've never seen before is very rewarding.


*Currently, we are looking for volunteers that would like to help with
outreach throughout the month of March.*
The dates are: All Sundays in March and the first Sunday of April, the
Wednesday & Thursday of March Break, and Good Friday

   - Sundays - March 5, 12, 19, 26 and April 2
   - March Break - March 15 and 16
   - Good Friday - April 7


This outreach is with Westfield Heritage Village in Rockton. *We would need
to let them know which days we can support by the latest Wednesday Feb 22*.

Westfield Heritage Village Conservation Area is both a living history
museum and a conservation area. It boasts a stunning collection of over 35
historical buildings that have been restored to capture early Canadian
culture. Westfield also houses 3 historic scopes belonging to our Centre
(see this post for pictures of the scopes:
http://hamiltonrasc.ca/forum/index.php?topic=1549.0).

To fire up the relationship again, we're looking to partake in a multi-day
event during the month of March - it is *Westfiled's Maple Syrup event*.
They'll have a number of buildings open and several stations where the
public can learn about various elements of pioneer life. We would be one of
those stations. *The exact details are still being worked out, but the
events are during the daytime and we would likely have one of the historic
scopes set up and perhaps a modern scope so people can look at the sun*.
This would mesh nicely with our efforts to prepare for solar eclipse
outreach coming in 2024. We would also be permitted to have a table with
printed material and perhaps our new banner.
